Yub yub

Pretty laid back week­end com­ing to a close…spent some good time with my younglings work­ing on lit­tle art projects and wrap­ping up sea­son one of Star­gate Atlantis (fun times!), and finally made some head­way with a side project for the first time in months (Kaiyra).  I’d have liked to add a few more out­door excur­sions to the mix, guess that’ll be for week­end after next.

Fin­ished up the raw body model & hair for Kaiyra tonight…she’s got ears and hands and every­thing, and then did a first pass on her skin shader.

She still has no actual tex­ture map­ping done…that’s where I paint on some lip color (likely just color and not lip­stick), eye shadow and gen­eral col­or­ing as well as things like freck­les or moles.  I’m not pic­tur­ing much for freck­les on her, but she’ll def­i­nitely get a few moles and gen­eral col­or­ing on her — as well as eye­brows, she needs those some­thing fierce right now along with her eyelashes.

The hair was a mon­ster task, but I’m very happy with it.  It, too, needs tex­tur­ing (it’s just a solid color for now) but once that’s in it’ll look pretty good methinks.  I plan on using Kaiyra for a vari­ety of dif­fer­ent shots or ideas so I’m tak­ing the time to model every­thing out in lay­ers, nor­mally I would build her gloves (for exam­ple) right into her here but then she could never take them off.  She’ll always have her shirt and some kind of under­gar­ment on, so those will be added on and then it’ll be lay­ers from there.  Then again, I’m not so sure how well mul­ti­ple lay­ers will ani­mate with her so I may just end up hav­ing sev­eral dif­fer­ent mod­els of her to choose from as needed.

Ah, noth­ing like think­ing out loud.  I’ll try to do some­thing more thought pro­vok­ing for a blog post tomor­row night!
