Pretty laid back weekend coming to a close…spent some good time with my younglings working on little art projects and wrapping up season one of Stargate Atlantis (fun times!), and finally made some headway with a side project for the first time in months (Kaiyra). I’d have liked to add a few more outdoor excursions to the mix, guess that’ll be for weekend after next.
Finished up the raw body model & hair for Kaiyra tonight…she’s got ears and hands and everything, and then did a first pass on her skin shader.
She still has no actual texture mapping done…that’s where I paint on some lip color (likely just color and not lipstick), eye shadow and general coloring as well as things like freckles or moles. I’m not picturing much for freckles on her, but she’ll definitely get a few moles and general coloring on her — as well as eyebrows, she needs those something fierce right now along with her eyelashes.
The hair was a monster task, but I’m very happy with it. It, too, needs texturing (it’s just a solid color for now) but once that’s in it’ll look pretty good methinks. I plan on using Kaiyra for a variety of different shots or ideas so I’m taking the time to model everything out in layers, normally I would build her gloves (for example) right into her here but then she could never take them off. She’ll always have her shirt and some kind of undergarment on, so those will be added on and then it’ll be layers from there. Then again, I’m not so sure how well multiple layers will animate with her so I may just end up having several different models of her to choose from as needed.
Ah, nothing like thinking out loud. I’ll try to do something more thought provoking for a blog post tomorrow night!
G’night.
