A-Building We Go!

I started modeling (3d modeling) the new version of my character Kaiyra tonight, only got to put a couple of hours into her but it was the most fun I’ve had modeling a character ever.

Character modeling has always been a love infatuation/absolute hatred relationship for me.  I’m infatuated with the idea of making character, and they hate me.  It’s always the early steps that I dread, starting from scratch and then a whole other list of problems and things I do wrong that I don’t see until it’s too late.

So this time I figured I’d try something different, and adapt the very well known “Joan of Arc” character modeling tutorial…which in itself was interesting to come full circle to as I recall trying to do this tutorial years and years ago with no success.  Like 2002 or 2001.  Know I’m so used to modeling that I was able to actually do certain steps easier than the tutorial called for (tech’s changed in the ten years since the tutorial was written), and use my own sketches instead of his for the body’s proportions.  What was brilliant about the tutorial though is it was the very first one I’ve ever done where you start modeling from the toe and up from there!  Every one I’ve ever done was making the head first and working down.

Anyhow, got to the bottom edge of her rib cage tonight.  I’m horrible for not posting pics of this, I’ll try to get some up tomorrow night with a post if I remember to.

Bed time…before 11:30!  The record breaking continues!  G’night :)
