The Search Begins

With the completion of this site (finally) comes the end of a very ackward period in my life.  It was a lot of work getting the portfolio put the together, as I’ve said before I really had not planned on starting work on a portfolio website for at least another year or more.

Needless to say, my first piece of advice I’m going to give anyone interested in getting into the industry as a Game Artist…always, always, always have a portfolio website!

That said, I’ve been putting in applications throughout the week and have been extremely surprised by how many replies I’ve received.  I planned on staggering my application process on a weekly basis, applying the first week at places I would really want to work for and going on down from there.  If this week has been any indication, my chances of working somehwere I want to work at are pretty high!

It takes a lot of time putting all of the applications in, it doesn’t feel right to me to simply copy and paste the exact same cover letter to each prospective employer so I write each individual one out.  I’ll probably resort to copy & pasting with tweaks later on though, haha!

We’re hoping to relocate from Wisconsin to the Austin, Texas area the most.  Everything I’ve heard about it from my peers has been extremely positive, and Kelly found out there are two roller derby leagues in that city alone she could potentially get onto.  Cost of living isn’t much more than the current area we’re in (according to some government website dealy) either.

Also applied in Arizona and California.  We’re both originally from California, which would be cool to go back there but the cost of living is kind of a turn-off for us.  Based on replies there are a couple opportunities out there, though.

So…yes, I remain quite optimistic and hopeful.
