The “Professional” section of the 3D Gallery is up now, and most likely won’t be changing. Seems I don’t have a copy of the textures for most of the models I did for “Elements of Destruction,” so I wasn’t able to render out nearly as much as I would have liked for that game. At any rate…there are 15 pieces in there for better or worse, which is more than enough to serve a good example of professional work done for video game development.
One of the features I’ve always wanted to have as a standard on my web portfolio – once I actually got around to making it – was that every single image I have in the 3D section would have auxiliary links to a wireframe render, a sheet showing all of the texture maps used, and the concept art for the piece. All of these open up into a new window, so that someone evaluating the portfolio could (in theory) hold those windows up side by side with the art piece and really evaluate what they think of my work.
Unfortunately I don’t have those resources available for everything in the gallery right now, though eventually I’ll pull out the images that don’t have those available while adding new pieces to the gallery. Some of the shots I just don’t have the 3DS Max file for anymore, or I don’t have the textures available to me now, etc. Lesson has definitely been learned to always keep a personal copy of anything I ever make!
I’m finally going to get to scanning tomorrow if all goes well, though I’m still not sure where the wonderful power cable is for the scanner. I’m a little worried about the size of the flatbed too…I don’t think it’s going to scan a full page from my sketchpad (11″ x 14″), so I may have to consider an alternative route. That will flesh out the rest of the 2D gallery, allow me to add links on the 3D gallery to the related concept art for each piece (if available), and have them ready and waiting for adding the personal 3D works gallery (which is what will take me the rest of this week and next to finish).
It is finally starting to come together, though. I’m still not certain on my plan for the animation/video section, though I’ll pull something together at some point I’m sure.
